JJ's Birthday at Blue Lake Resort 2021

It’s nice when my husband jumps in to help make plans & organize one of our adventures. I generally take charge of everything but sometimes take on too much & get stressed out. Since I planned most of the two-week road trip this year, James (JJ) took on our annual three-day getaway for his 53rd birthday in early May. Time to go fishing at Blue Lake!

So JJ made the reservations at the same resort we went to last year, where we’ve had previous True family gatherings. In fact, his family has a history on Blue Lake, where his grandparents used to own their own resort. We were excited about our peaceful little getaway, but we had no idea just how quiet it would be! Once the reservations were made, JJ never checked his Gmail account for any notifications… and so we had no idea as we pulled up with our trailer that the resort had been sold & our reservation was canceled!

I sat in the truck as JJ investigated. People were working on the grounds, but other than that, the resort was deserted. I had a bad feeling about our upcoming weekend, but then JJ reappeared with a big smile on his face. He stepped up into the truck, telling me that he just met the new owners, Pavan & Manmit, & they were going to honor our reservations! In fact, we were to be their very first guests & we could pick any spectacular waterfront site we liked best.

We unloaded the bikes, then backed up the trailer about 20 feet from the lake, perfect for throwing in the fishing lines. Only one other trailer pulled in for the weekend at the other end of the park. It really was like having our own private resort! The new owners are really invested in updating the property. Their excitement is contagious & we plan to watch their Blue Lake Resort Website & Facebook page to watch their progress.

This trip also happened to be our first time hauling our Harleys in our new 31G Momentum. James installed the BOLT IT ON bike rack system into the toy hauler's garage & both bikes rode highly secure. On Saturday, we rode from Blue Lake to Summer Falls (accessible by a dirt road) & over to Coulee City & the Dam. I survived my first significant gust of wind on the bike, which I admit, was intimidating. I saw it hit JJ ahead of me first, so I was mentally prepared. It just came out of nowhere & then it was gone. Another notch in my confidence as I kept control of my bike under such a force.

Central WA may seem a little drab when you are in a hurry getting from one side of the state to the other, but when you commit to exploring, you find the beauty of many hidden treasures. We rode back along Banks Lake, loving the deep curves of the highway while enjoying the contrasting view of the blue sky with the dark cliffs & deep water. We both embrace life no matter where our adventures take us, but it always helps to have a sense of humor. JJ is a total goofball & our video for this adventure gives you a glimpse of what I live with (and love) daily! Click the link to watch:

If you decide to make reservations months in advance like we do, I suggest you keep up on your emails! Or at least verify they are still good before you head out. We got lucky that our hosts were so accommodating; they certainly saved the day for JJ's birthday weekend! And thankfully, the birthday fairy also finally worked a little magic & my husband caught a fish to Bar-B-Q for dinner.
